
Position Title: Welcome to Manhood Workshop (WTM) Facilitator

Founded in 2003, Concerned Black Men of Los Angeles seeks to unite African American men to support and empower youths and advocate for the betterment of our communities. As part of our mentorship, we provide community leadership opportunities and encourage education as a first priority. We are strongly committed to the social, emotional, academic, and psychological development of African American youth. Thus, we work to provide them with positive outlets to help them engage in constructive behaviors and develop positive mindsets and attitudes.
Position Summary:
The primary role of the WTM facilitator is to guide students through our Welcome to Manhood Curriculum. The facilitator will conduct monthly workshops for young males of color ranging from ages 11 to 19 years old. Workshops are generally two and a half hours long and take place once a month during the nine-month academic year. The facilitator should use our pre-set curriculum to engage students in interactive activities including group discussions, team building exercises, and Q&A sessions with guest speakers. The typical workshop has anywhere between 7 and 25 teens and young boys. Our goal is to promote education, provide career guidance, and instruct young men on the importance of self-mastery and personal achievement.
Position Responsibilities:
Create a welcoming environment for the young men, mentors, and parents participating in Welcome to Manhood Programming
Execute pre-designed workshops plans
Develop and maintain supportive relationships with WTM youth
Conduct outreach emails and program reminders for youth participating in Welcome to Manhood Workshops
Track workshop attendance
Distribute and collect monthly evaluation forms
Compensation:
$70 per session
Duration:
9 monthly Saturday sessions
Candidate Requirements:
Substantial experience working with young males of color
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong facilitation and communication skills
High cultural competence and the ability to discuss socially relevant issues with youth
Youth Facilitator Position may be classified and compensated as either an employee or independent contractor depending allowable regulations.
